- NJW Student Performance - Freddy Freeloader Excerpt (December 2007)
This performance was very special to me, for many reasons. For one, it was the first time that I had the courage to improvise or sing a transcription in front of an audience. (In another segment of this performance, I sang and transcribed Stan Getz's "Pennies From Heaven" solo and improvised to "Thrivin' From A Riff." ) I've always considered myself a lyrical vocalist, so this was pretty spectacular for me. While the performance itself wasn't my finest, it was significant and I'm very proud. I learned how important it is to step outside of my comfort zone and experience the joy of taking the chance. I had the best time learning Freddy Freeloader and continue to use it as a practice technique for myself. Enjoy!
